Alumnus recognised at British Council awards

Cardiff Business School PhD alumnus, Dr Ruth Banomyong, was recently shortlisted at the British Council’s Alumni Awards.

Dr Banomyong, an International Logistics graduate, was nominated in the Professional Achievement category at the annual awards which “celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education”.

While Dr Banomyong lost out on the prize, the nomination is testament to his academic and professional achievements in his field. Since graduating from Cardiff Business School in 2001, where he was supervised by Professor Anthony Beresford in the Logistics and Operations Management section, Dr Banomyong has been recognised as one of the foremost logistics development experts in Southeast Asia. He is currently a lecturer at Thammasat University, Thailand, with which Cardiff Business School maintains a strong professional relationship.

In his submission for the Alumni Awards Dr Banomyong highlighted how valuable his Higher Education experience in the UK, and Cardiff Business School specifically, was to him, both professionally and personally.

From an academic perspective, he has built on his PhD research and developed a cost-time distance model which has been adopted by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the United Nationals Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank (WB), as a reference for assessing economic corridor performance. Dr Banomyong is committed to using his skills and academic scholarship to improve the logistics capabilities of countries across Southeast Asia and, in time, globally.

Having enjoyed his time in Wales, Dr Banomyong has nothing but praise for Cardiff Business School’s research environment and global alumni network. He also took a small part of Wales’ heritage with him, namely his affection for rugby, which he is putting to good use in managing the Thammasat University rugby team!

Congratulations to Dr Banomyong on his British Council Alumni Award nomination. The School wishes him continued success in his professional endeavours.
