All our degree programmes are covered in the School's brochures, which you can download from this site. The brochures contain an introduction to the degree, an outline of the programme content and the entry requirements. They also list the personal tutor details – if you have a question which isn't answered by the content in the brochure, use the contact details there to email for more information.
There are two 11-week semesters each academic year and a typical week would involve approximately 15 contact or structured teaching hours. These would consist of a mix of lectures and also more informal classes and workshops. In addition to formal teaching hours all academic members of staff have two office hours every week when students are welcome to ask for help with queries.
Students are not required to do any reading before commencing an undergraduate degree. Students will usually be given reading lists by individual lecturers for individual modules at the first lecture for the module.
Cardiff Business School students studying degrees with a language component will spend their third year outside the UK at one of the School's partner institutions, studying in their chosen language.
Students on the BSc Accounting and BSc Accounting & Finance have the opportunity to apply for a year's work placement in a professional accountancy firm or a business environment, through the ICAEW Undergraduate Partnership Programme.
The salaried placement will take place in the third year of a four-year degree programme. The placement will also count as the first year of a chartered accountancy training contract, giving successful students the opportunity to start the ACA, the premier professional accountancy qualification, while studying for their degree.
Students on other programmes are welcome to organise a year of absence and arrange their own placement if they so wish but our students generally prefer to obtain work experience during vacations rather than disrupt studies part way through a degree. We have an excellent Careers Service at Cardiff where students can obtain advice about vacation placements and general career opportunities. Please visit the Careers Service.
Cardiff is one of Europe's youngest capital cities. Compact, green, friendly and full of life, it provides a first class environment in which to live and study.
