PhD students are at the hub of the research community at Cardiff Business School. As a doctoral student, we will expect you to contribute fully to the advancement of knowledge, not just in Cardiff but more widely, contributing to the international environment of your chosen academic field.
We offer doctoral programmes in the following fields:
Our key to providing you with a profound learning experience is our Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognised research methods training provision. Via the ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre based in Cardiff University, each year the School has five ESRC PhD Studentships in Management and Business and two ESRC PhD Studentships in Economics. We currently have 150 students engaged on the PhD programme.
Each student is appointed a supervisory team of at least two qualified supervisors, who will nurture your development as you work towards your doctorate. We draw on the expertise of over 140 faculty who publish widely, edit and review for international journals, act as external examiners within the UK and globally, and provide consultancy services to major UK and global organisations.
The PhD programme will prepare you either for a career as a leading academic scholar or to excel in business practitioning or senior public policy decision making. Along the way you will be encouraged to publish, before completing an innovative thesis that contributes to academic debate in your chosen field. We will offer you a place on our PhD programme because we believe you have the talent, background and initiative to complete the programme and meet these goals.
We welcome enquiries from well-qualified graduates who wish to join a successful and prestigious business school in order to augment our research environment and benefit greatly from it.
