I have worked as a forensic labour economist since 1994 in the preparation of individual loss of future earnings calculations. I specialise in two areas:
- estimation of the impact of disability on life-time earnings and employment prospects with calculations based upon statistical analysis of the Labour Force Survey
- indexation of the salary-based costs of care where compensation is paid in the form of periodical payments
application of both the above to cases where the claimant lives outside the UK
I provided the evidence and calculations for the COPD Handling Agreement between miners and Department for Trade and Industry 1997–1999 and I continue to advise on updating this agreement.
Together with actuaries from CASS Business School, I developed an alternative model for compensating loss of future earnings which includes the impact of disability on future employment prospects. This model and its associated estimates form the basis for the disability-adjusted multipliers in the Sixth Edition of the Ogden Tables (May 2007). Visit my forensic economics website at www.victoriawass-laboureconomics.co.uk for information, links and downloadable pdf files in relation to:
- the indexation of future losses and expenditures
- disability adjusted multipliers in Ogden Six
I have given evidence as an expert witness in the following trials on the indexation of care costs:
- Thompstone v Tameside & Glossop Acute Health Services Trust [2006] EWHC 2904
- Corbett v South Yorkshire SHA 28th March 2007
- Sarwar v Ali and MIB [2007] EWHC 1255
- RH v United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust [2007] EWHC 1441
