Cardiff University hosts first alumni dinner in Istanbul

Two postgraduate alumni from Cardiff Business School and the School of Geography and Planning came together in Istanbul, Turkey to share their experiences since graduating.

Business School Admission and UK/EU Recruitment Officer Lowri Griffith met with the alumni while on a recruitment visit in Turkey. This was the first event of its kind hosted in this region.

Alumnus Andrew Hinds honoured with two key roles following professional success

Business Administration alumnus Andrew Hinds, class of 1988, was last year appointed to the British Hallmarking Council, which is responsible for oversight of the UK’s four assay offices. Following this achievement Andrew was also elected Chairman of the National Association of Goldsmiths, the UK jewellery trade association.

Business School alumnus elected as the General Secretary of Bangladesh Economic Association

Jamaluddin Ahmed, PhD alumnus, class of 1996, has recently been voted as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA).

Jamaluddin was elected to this role by the organization’s general members at their 19th biennial conference on 10th January 2015.

HRM alumnus wins British Council Entrepreneurial Award

Zhao Xinyu, MSc Human Resource Management alumnus (2004), has been named the winner of the British Council Entrepreneurial Award at the inaugural Education UK Alumni Awards for China.

Launched by the British Council, the Education UK Alumni Awards honour the achievements of UK alumni all over the world.

Business Administration alumnus Rick Benfield graduated in 2002. After graduating – and spending a year travelling the world – Rick moved to London on a graduate management programme with Accenture where he became involved in a number of volunteering projects arranged by the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility team.

BSc Business Management alumna Lucie Troop recently presented at Panalpina's global logistics meeting in Dubai.

Lucie, a final year student at the time, is the second  student to have been invited to this meeting as part of the Panalpina Award.  For this competition, our students identify trends that will have an impact on industry supply chains and logistics.

School Dean’s visit strengthens links with Hong Kong

In June 2014 Professor Martin Kitchener, Dean of Cardiff Business School, travelled to Hong Kong. He was joined on this trip by Professor Kent Matthews, Sir Julian Hodge Professor of Banking and Finance, and Rhys Evans, Partnership Development Manager. As well as attending business meetings, the trio hosted an alumni event at the prestigious Banker’s Club.

With this restructure complete, Cardiff Business School sits within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. We are the biggest School within this college.

Nina Zhang studied both her MSc in International Economics, Banking and Finance and her PhD at Cardiff Business School. We have stayed in close contact with Nina over the years and she recently got in touch to let us know that she has been permanently appointed as the Risk Head of China, Citi Commercial Bank (CCB), a role she has been acting up to since September last year.
